Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ

image

This past weekend marked a very special occasion for several friends and me: the first annual girls’ trip to the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival in Charlotte, North Carolina! I first heard about it a few months ago and immediately signed us up. It took place over the course of 6 hours on Saturday in Symphony Park at South Park Mall. The weather was beautiful, the scenery was beautiful, and the rows and rows of breweries, distilleries and vendors was beautiful!

Some of the best bourbons in the world were represented as well as many popular craft breweries and several local breweries that aren’t distributed outside of the city/state. As soon as I arrived, a Southern Tier Hop Sun made its way into my tasting glass.

About halfway through the day, the Beer Belly Contest took place. This is exactly what it sounds like. Radio personalities John Boy and Billy emceed the contest. Several bluegrass bands performed as well! Overall it was a fantastic time. I was excited to see some of Leon Farmer’s brewing partners at the festival – Peak Organic, Kona, Widmer Brothers, Southern Tier and Gordon Biersch. I look forward to next year!
