Gift Ideas for the Beer Lover in You (Or A Friend!)

image

Black Friday and Cyber Monday may have passed, but that doesn’t mean the shopping window is anywhere near closed for this year’s holiday season! If you’re having trouble finding a gift for someone, and that someone drinks beer, you can stop worrying! It’s easy to please a brewman or woman with a little lager love in the form of these great gifts:

1. Beer books! Tasting Beer and How to Brew are great options for someone who wants to learn everything there is to know about beer styles and brewing. Ambitious Brew and The Naked Pint are others that come highly recommended from Leon himself. Amazon has great prices on these books for Christmas

2. Coozies! WHO DOESN’T NEED A COOZIE?! They’re great for bottles, cans, and in my experience, keys and cellphones as well. In all shapes and colors, there is not a beer man out that that won’t appreciate this useful piece of neoprene.

3. Beer of the Month Club. You never know what you’re gonna get! But you can be sure your giftee’s monthly brew will be from an up-and-coming craft brewery that has been getting a lot of recent attention, which is great news for those who want to try new brands from all over the country.

4. Beer basket! Ever want to try tons of different beers but don’t want to get a whole 6-pack the first time around? Find a package store that sells singles, and stock up! To complete the ensemble, throw a coozie and some chips in there and top the basket with a ribbon tied around the handle. Hang a bottle opener from the ribbon and you’re set for December 25th. However, if you have 6 friends for whom a beer basket is ideal, well… hopefully you can figure that out.

5. Homebrew supplies. This is for the connoisseur of malted alcoholic beverages. However if your gift recipient is a standard beer drinker who wants to hone his homebrewing skills, all you have to do is purchase a basic homebrewing kit along with a how-to book, and they will be well on their way to brewing your next birthday present!

6. Beer soap! Please refer to my previous blog if your eyebrows have perked.

7. A weekend tour. All over the United States there are clusters of breweries with tour and tasting hours almost daily. New England is easily the best place to find breweries in close proximity, but with the right guide you can find them almost anywhere. Take your beer-loving friend to a brewpub with an inn, and spend the day attending the area’s brewery tours and tastings!

8. Beer magazine subscription! Dozens of magazines cater to craft beer, the beer industry, or just brewing in general. Many, many options to offer for a great seasonal present! They range from homebrewing techniques to styles, history to business, brewery to distribution and are a great source of listings for companies and job openings in the beer market. Thanks, Amazon.

9. Brew-opoly. Yes, Monopoly has made a game for everything.

10. Glassware. There is a huge array of glass selections for the many different beer styles. For a lager drinker, perhaps a mug or specialty lager glass. For an IPA man, a snifter. Some beer brands have their own specialty glasses, created to bring out the best flavor and aroma possible for that particular style.

11. On the note of drinking containers, buy your buddy a Budweiser stein! I highly recommend the holiday Clydesdale steins. They’re beautiful and quite the collector’s item!

12. A cooler. These days there are so many different cooler styles available, there is guaranteed to be one that will suit your friend’s lifestyle! Some hold 6-packs, others a 12-pack, and some a case, 36-pack or more! Some have can holders on the lid, or provide seating. Some roll, some have side handles, and some are slung over the shoulder. Some are horizontal and others square or vertical for fitting in small places. Some come with radios, iPod adapters, or attached bottle openers. You can have them custom-made, custom-painted, or personalized!

13. Clothes! Most breweries have websites and on-site gift shops chock-full of merchandise. Find that perfect t-shirt, jacket, headband, hat or scarf for your beery friend. Many include free shipping or offer discounts if you buy while visiting a brewery.

14. Beer. When you’ve run out of ideas in your budget, or the person you’re buying for has everything, there’s nothing left to give him but the thing he loves most – a bottle of delicious beer. Perhaps when you’re out traveling this season, pick up any unique brews you find, from local breweries or just beer that’s not sold in your home state. Put a bow on the bottleneck. Put it in a wine bag. Serve it with a well-paired dish! Wrap a selection of them with a plastic ball and, after drinking them, line up your empty bottles for a bowling tournament. The possibilities are endless!
