Good Music, Good Beer

image

Saturday night I attended a friend’s concert at one of my favorite venues in Athens. The last few times I’ve been to this particular venue, they’ve always carried some of my favorite beers on draft – Bud, Bud Light, and Magic Hat #9. Working in the beer business day-to-day, even indirectly like I do, can stir up some pretty severe beer cravings, and on this particular night I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally wanted a Magic Hat. Not a bottle, but a nice cold pint right off the tap. I knew the venue carried it, so all day long, I was thinking about that crisp amber not-quite-pale ale and was super excited to know that when I paid my cover and entered the establishment later that night, my pint of #9 would be there waiting for me in all its secrecy-cloaked glory.

It wasn’t. It was gone, not even on the menu anymore. It’s an unfortunate but frequent change that bars and venues have to make now and then… they just can’t carry everyone’s favorite brew at once because tap space is limited. Sometimes they have to switch things up to provide a little variety for their customers.

In my dear Magic Hat’s place was Peak Organic Nut Brown. I was sad to have my dreams shot down by the menu, but I have to say it was pretty exciting to see Peak on tap already, and I was definitely ok with having it instead. Peak Organic is a 100% organic certified brewing company based out of Portland, Maine. Every single beer they produce is absolutely delicious. They entered Georgia just in the last couple months, so it’s pretty new. But delicious. My personal favorite so far is Pomegranate Wheat, made with Acai berries, pomegranate and coriander. The fall seasonal, Maple Oat, will debut soon and I look forward to trying it out. Until then, I enjoyed a Nut Brown at the bar/restaurant while I listened to some great music.
