It’s that time of year, when I along with nearly every other young person in Athens decide that our current living arrangements will no longer suffice, and we begin our move to new apartments and houses. Trucks are loaded, bags are packed, Goodwill donation centers are overflowing, and boxes are in high demand – and rare supply.
Luckily, beer is a popular choice of beverage, so our friendly neighborhood package and grocery stores are able to help us out with the best kind of boxes – the sturdy ones, not too bulky, the perfect size and strength for hauling books, dishes, clothes or whatever else you have been stowing in the depths of your closet. Stores often create displays out of beer and discard a dozen boxes at once, which is moving box jackpot!
If you’re in the market for moving supplies, call a business that sells beer (or wine) and ask when their next delivery is. Then go to the store that day and see what you can come up with! Another option is to contact a catering company and ask for leftover boxes from an event they service such as a wedding or reunion.
If you’re moving during the day, please take caution with this 100+ degree weather and drink lots of water (how about some Callaway Blue!) and stay out of the sun as much as possible. And when you’re done unpacking, recycle those boxes!
