Other Things Made With Beer

image

Last week I enlightened you on bathing with beer. It got me thinking – what else can beer be used for? Well here’s a list of the first few things I came across this morning. Thanks Google!

Baking bread – An Atlanta brewing company recently partnered with a grocery store chain to bake bread loaves with their most popular beer. I’m going to try this out this week with beer from our own handsome craft selection. Wish me luck!

Shampoo your hair! Beer is said to provide more volume and shine when heated to remove the alcohol and mixed with regular shampoo. There’s also homemade beer shampoo, but this seems much easier. And no, your hair will NOT smell like beer.

Go to sleep – Apparently the smell of hops can lure an insomniac to their pillow. Get a small Muslim bag or pouch (like for jewelry or potpourri) and put in 1/2 fresh green hop flowers, 1/4 chamomile flowers, and 1/4 lavender flowers. The hops alone are enough to make you sleep, but the chamomile and lavender sweeten the smell and help you relax (which is why they’re often used in teas as well). Put this pouch under or in your pillow when you go to sleep! This video provides an easy how-to.

Grow grass in the brown spots on your lawn – It’s recommended that you spray home brew or another chemical-free beer on the brown spots. The grass absorbs the sugar, which stimulates growth and kills any fungi that may be hindering growth. E-how also has a video for that here.

On that note, it’s also true that plants in general like beer… so if you have a party and there are some half-empty (or half-full!) beer bottles lying around afterwards, dump them into your patio plants. They’ll love you for it!

Shine up wooden furniture! Flat beer helps bring the color back into a table or chair in need of a good polish. It also removes tea and coffee stains in carpet and can clean gold jewelry.

Loosen up rusty bolts. The carbonation in beer breaks up the rust.

Make an airplane! This guy makes model planes out of any kind of can you want. The amount of detail a person can put into one of these planes is astounding, considering there is no welding involved! His designs are pretty detailed though, and I don’t want to go to that much effort to make my own plane. So I found this how-to.

I may not actually build the airplane, but it’s a great idea, especially if you’re running out of things to get your dad for his birthday, Christmas, or Father’s Day! I’m just gonna make my beer bread.
