Pale as an Ale

Today, let’s talk about pale ales. Pale ale is named because brewers use a larger proportion of hops than most beers, which results in a lighter color, and less wheat. It is synonymously referred to as a bitter ale. There are many types of pale ale, including Amber Ale, India Pale Ale, Golden Ale, and English Bitter, but for now I’d like to present some American Pale Ales.

Men’s Journal released a list of the 25 Best Beers in the World according to, well the writer’s of Men’s Journal. Among this array of tasty brews is Peak Organic’s Pale Ale. Brewed in Portland, Maine, it is described as “a remarkable pale ale with a bright, copper-colored beer and a slightly spicy, hoppy citrus tang muted by a solid, toasty malt body.

Another delightful pale ale worth mentioning is made in New York by Southern Tier Brewing Company, known for their incredible imperials and numerous seasonal brews. Southern Tier’s pale ale in uniquely known for its grapefruit and tangerine overtones.

Kona Brewing Company, based in Hawaii, has a pale ale known as Fire Rock that has been a medal winner at numerous beer competitions over the years, including the U.S. Open Beer Championships, the U.S. Beer Tasting Championships, and the Capital Food and Wine Festival.

Michelob Brewing has a dry-hopped pale ale that pours a beautiful light orange color, an award-winning beer at the 2005 Great American Beer Festival.

Widmer Drifter is a pale ale produced by Widmer Brothers Brewing Company. Its smooth taste has been a medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival and certainly makes it a beer worth trying.

Pale ales pair perfectly with grilled steak, roasted tenderloin as well as spicy tuna sushi or a nice chicken salad. Enjoy one today!
