I climbed to the top of the Hunter-Holmes building and snapped this shot of downtown Athens before I was pummeled with snowballs...
In case you haven’t noticed, it snowed recently. In fact, it snowed SO much that we didn’t get to work yesterday (sad!).
As for me, yesterday was a day of adventure. I measured seven inches of snow at my home in central Athens before heading out in my 4WD SUV to spend the day with friends. We enjoyed sledding down Broad Street, starting snowball fights on North Campus with random strangers, and thawing out with delicious craft brews at one of my favorite pubs. We ended the day with a warm fire in the fireplace and a few more beers.
As I discovered in my snowy expedition across town, a few bars and restaurants in downtown Athens were open yesterday and expect to be open today, so if you’re within walking distance, you should head on over and enjoy a few Southern Tiers or a Magners Irish Cider!
Please be careful if you venture out again this morning. Melted/packed snow has been covered and frozen into a dangerous layer of ice, and driving is NOT recommended. Follow Matt Daniel on Twitter for up-to-date information on Athens weather and the freezing advisories! If you do venture out in a car, follow the bad weather driving rules – drive slowly, brake slowly, leave LOTS of room between you and other cars, and when in doubt, take another route or turn around and go home!
Stay warm, beer friends. Cheers!
