2011 was a phenomenal year for craft beer. Here’s a look back at what we experienced through our eyes, ears, taste buds and social media apps in the last 12 months!
Magic Hat took us back in time to the days of yore with “flavor flashbacks.” Humble Patience joined Hex and hI.P.A IPA on Tour in the Night of the Living Dead variety pack, and Ravell was a part of the Winterland variety pack along with Howl and Encore IPA on Tour. Magic Hat has also given us something to look forward to in the spring – the release of Plus/Minus, a new English-style seasonal, in the Spring Fever variety pack as well as the return of Vinyl and Demo IPA on Tour! Several other brewing partners released new brews as well! Widmer Brothers introduced a “Rotator Series” of incredible IPAs from the many experimental recipes their brewers have created. So far we’ve seen X-114, Falconer’s, and O’Ryely. The selection changes every few months and we can’t wait to see what’s next! Peak Organic released Maple Collaboration, a new take on the old Maple Oat style, as well as Weiss Principle and Hop Noir. Southern Tier just announced the production of 2X Stout, coming our way very soon!
2011 saw the introduction of not just new beers, but also new breweries in the state of Georgia. From Germany we brought you the styles of Krombacher. From Italy, we now carry Birra Mirosa and its counterpart Mirosa Lemon. And from Mississippi in the great USA, Lazy Magnolia! We’ve enjoyed working with our new and old brewing partners and can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the coming year.
Leon Farmer and Company is all about bringing our consumers the best in domestic, craft and import beers. We also pride ourselves on our selection of quality non-alcoholic products such as Sparkling Ice and Icelandic Glacial. This year we introduced Calypso Lemonades to the market. Calypso has an incredible selection of flavored lemonades sweetened with pure cane sugar for a natural and fruity taste! If you haven’t tried one yet, make that a New Year’s Resolution!
For many years, the Classic City has been home to the annual spring Brewfest. Brewfest, held each April, hosts dozens of breweries from around the world. Breweries showcase their best year-rounds, spring seasonals and special releases for attendees. In addition to Brewfest, Athens also became host to the first annual Athens Craft Beer Festival this year. ACBF hosted many of the same breweries as its spring counterpart, but saw fall seasonals and unique special releases when it made its debut at Hotel Indigo in October. Beer enthusiasts in the Athens area now have TWO beer festivals to look forward to each year!
As December 31 approaches, remember to enjoy the rest of your holiday season with family, friends, and wintry brews responsibly and safely! For many years, Budweiser has partnered with AAA to provide the Tow to Go program on holidays to AAA members AND non-members. This year is no exception! On New Year’s Eve, party-goers who are unable to drive home can call 1-800-AAA-HELP and a AAA tow truck will take the vehicle and driver home safely at no cost to the driver, and with 100% confidentiality. Stay safe and Happy New Year!
