The staff of Brewbound.com had a little fun last week and blind-tested 18 pumpkin beers for color and taste. The clear winner Southern Tier PUMKING! It’s one of our favorites too. A couple weeks ago I posted a blog on some great ways to enjoy pumpkins this fall that included brewing your own pumpkin seasonal, baking with it, and of course just enjoying some ready-to-enjoy Pumking out of the bottle.

Brewbound.com review of Pumking:
As the overwhelming favorite by all judges, I bet you are wondering what makes this beer so appealing. PumKing is one of those beers that leaves you completely speechless. If Willy Wonka had a pumpkin factory, this would be it. Sweet, sugary smells of pumpkin, graham cracker and spice transport you to a bakery and make you forget you are drinking beer altogether. The perfect blend of earthy pumpkin flavor, cinnamon spice and smooth vanilla make this the quintessential desert beer. The 8.6 percent ABV is hardly noticeable and each sip leaves you begging for more. PumKing will undoubtedly be your favorite pumpkin beer you try all season – we guarantee it.

Turns out Pumking was the 2010 winner of another pumpkin beer contest put together by The Beer Critic. What really stands this beer apart from the others in this list is the fact that this didn’t really taste like pumpkin pie. It was more of a pumpkin baked good (a delicious one at that). With flavors like buttery biscuits and creamy vanilla mixing highlighting what tastes like real pumpkin filling makes this one of the best pumpkin muffins you’ve ever had. It’s a beer that must be tried whether you are a fan of pumpkin beers or not.
